First, as a NORML chapter, we recognize and agree with NORML's Policy Statement
Further, we contend that:
1.There is nothing at all wrong with using, growing or selling marijuana.
2.That marijuana prohibition, that is, the State's use of violent force, home invasions, child abductions, theft of property etc., against innocent, law abiding marijuana users, is in itself harmful and immoral.
3.The ideological view that marijuana should be illegal is no different from other false, wrong, immoral ideological views like racism and homophobia. We regard all acts that support the ongoing enforcement of current marijuana laws, globally, nationally and locally, as hate crimes.
4.It is our belief that a majority of citizens in Saskatchewan, in Canada, and in North America as a whole, want marijuana legalized. We invite governments to prove us wrong by holding referendums on the issue because;
As we define ourselves as living in a free and democratic society;
5.If there is even a chance that a majority of citizens do not approve of the laws being enforced, law enforcement at all levels, police, lawyers and judges, cannot honestly claim to be serving the community in any way by enforcing those laws, and are in fact acting in what is essentially a criminal manner by doing so. Continuing the war against marijuana without a referendum in the face of widespread opposition is a sign of contempt by governments against democratic principles and against their own citizens.
